Welcome Back To The Land!
We moved to Golden BC in December 2016 from Ontario, after retiring from hectic positions in the nuclear energy industry, bringing with us our beloved cats, copious pieces of furniture, a trillion boxes of inventory from our health food store, and a truck-load of hickory hardwood flooring. Ask us about that story when you visit.
As beautiful as the Canadian Rockies are, moving here wasn’t exactly an easy decision. We left behind close family and friends to embark on a new adventure by ourselves, in a town where we didn’t know anyone or how mountain culture might affect us. Our mission to settle here involved weekend blitz trips, looking for log homes on acreage in Canmore, Banff, Fairmont Hot Springs, and Invermere. However, it’s in Golden where we struck proverbial gold, a quaint town we had never heard of before. Only one hour west of Lake Louise, it gave us the close proximity we hoped for to travel to our favourite nature escapes in Banff National Park. Little did we realize that Golden also meant we were within 1.5 hours’ drive to another five national parks (Kootenay, Yoho, Jasper, Glacier, and Revelstoke). Jackpot!
With a scant 4500 permanent residents, this town is no slouch when it comes to hosting tourist crowds up to 30,000 each summer and winter season. There are many B&Bs, AirBnBs, Inns, and Motels/Hotels to choose from here, from the simplistic to the divine. We like to model ourselves in the sweet spot, right in the middle. Rustic yet elegant. Affordable yet opulent. We’ve taken the best of what we’ve experienced in B&Bs across North America, and left the less desirable quirks behind, to make what we believe to be a truly Canadian experience in an iconic log home. How do we compare with others in the area? This question is subjective, because some may want a spa-like experience, or are looking for a gym, pool, restaurant/bar, vending machines, and so forth. We don’t have that. But we are the only lodging that provides truly organic beds, with organic bed linens, organic duvets & pillows, organic hotel-quality towels, and organic toiletries, so you’re sure to have a naturally pure and toxin-free rest while you’re with us. It’s not going out of our way to ask you what you prefer to eat. Savoury? Sweet? Large and satisfying, or light and quick? It’s all about you and what makes you feel pampered and satiated.
So when you’re looking for a place to stay in Golden, we hope you will research everything that this town has to offer, and then come to us. We graciously welcome you Back To The Land.
